The Honorable Jim Webb
United States Senate
144 Russell Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Webb:
On behalf of the Virginia Business Council, we look forward to opportunities to work together in support of a strong business climate and quality of life in Virginia.
As you know, we are in the midst of extraordinarily difficult times. Serious problems in the financial industry have caused a near collapse of our economy. Severe repercussions are being felt internationally, nationally and here at home in Virginia.
We believe effective solutions to the economic crisis must come from appropriate federal policies. We urge you to seek and support policies that will strengthen the business climate. Policies that increase commerce and job growth will provide economic opportunity to Americans and revenue to governments for necessary services.
In addition to current serious economic challenges, Americans are facing significant and growing global economic competition. If we are to maintain our economic strength and security, we must not have public policies that weaken our ability to compete. It is the opinion of the Council that the “Employee Free Choice Act” as currently drafted will cause serious harm to America’s ability to compete in the world economy. We recognize your previous support for this legislation, but we ask you to reconsider the issues, vote against cloture on the legislation as drafted and help provide the needed leadership to find appropriate alternative policy.
The Council stands ready to work with you in support of public policies that strengthen our economy and provide economic opportunity and prosperity to our citizens.
Sincerely,
